Congresswoman Bourdeaux Applauds Funding for GA 7 Community Projects in House Appropriations Bills

Statement

Date: June 24, 2022
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Carolyn Bourdeaux (GA-07) applauded the inclusion of 15 of her community funding projects in FY23 appropriations bills. Included are $13 million in funding for critical programs throughout Georgia's 7th Congressional District.

Earlier this year, Rep. Bourdeaux submitted 15 funding requests for important community projects in Georgia's 7th District to the House Appropriations Committee. These projects will be included in the FY2023 appropriations bills to be considered by the House of Representatives later this year, after moving through the committee process in the coming weeks.

"I am so glad to see my community projects included in this year's appropriations bills," said Congresswoman Carolyn Bourdeaux. "I selected 15 projects, each of which fills a critical need for our community. Gwinnett and Forsyth counties are growing so fast that often critical social services and infrastructure have not had time to catch up. These projects invest in key services and key parts of our community that will help our families thrive."

Last year, Rep. Bourdeaux submitted 10 funding requests for important community projects in Georgia's 7th District to the House Appropriations Committee. The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2022 included funding for all 10 of her community projects totaling more than $5 million in new funding for Gwinnett and Forsyth Counties.

This year, Congresswoman Bourdeaux requested $13 million for 15 projects from across Georgia's 7th Congressional District. Under guidelines issued by the Appropriations Committee, each Member of Congress can select up to 15 projects in their community for FY23.

The Congresswoman and her staff spent over a month meeting with local stakeholders and organizations. Projects were selected based on their ability to provide a service of key needs in the community, their likelihood of being selected, and their benefit to Georgia's 7th Congressional District.
